We’re living in a digital world and the field of marketing is fully aware of that fact. Digital marketing, once a novelty, has quickly become a trend-setter for all of marketing and advertising. As more people across the globe gain access to smartphones and social media, the need for digital marketing has become vital for any business. The past year has seen a great deal of growth in this area and will continue to as the new year approaches.
Here are five observations regarding 2015’s digital marketing growth:
All about that blog. Content is key when it comes to digital marketing, giving you an opportunity to share your expertise and build relationships with your clients. Over half of all marketers have a blog and out of that, two-thirds update it weekly. For help crafting the perfect blog post, check out our Creating Content tip sheet.
Video made the digital marketing star. Digital marketing has become more visual than ever over the past year. A survey of marketers revealed that 75% not only use video but believe it is the most effective marketing content. Like your social media. Social media is no longer just a teenager’s pastime. Most businesses have a profile on at least one social media platform. Facebook, is the most popular with 93% of businesses using it for marketing purposes. The social media giant is followed by LinkedIn and Twitter with 70% and 80% of businesses using these platforms.
The lost get found with remarketing. People who have visited your website or used your app are all potential clients. Even if someone only visited your site briefly, previous visitors can see your ads as they browse other websites or as they search for terms related to your products or services through remarketing. The more potential customers see your ads, the more likely they are to return to your website.
Mobile is a digital marketer’s best friend. As smartphone use grew, so did the need for mobile-friendly websites, and the digital marketing world responded. In April 2015, Google began boosting mobile-friendly websites in searches. This change was known in the web design and digital marketing world as Mobilegeddon.
For digital marketing, 2015 was a year of growth and development that will continue into the new year and beyond. As digital marketing continues to grow, you need to grow with it. Looking at the trends of the past year can help you to plan your digital marketing strategy for 2016. You will learn what worked well or didn’t and be able to make changes accordingly.
