The holidays are the time to show your customers you care, and share special deals with them. Email is one way to do this, but if not carefully crafted your message could end up in the trash folder.
Here are three email etiquette tips to remember this holiday season:
Short is sweet. Keep messages and subject lines short and engaging. Remember the old adage about pictures being worth more than words. Including photos and videos will catch your readers’ eyes more than a long, wordy letter. Although you may not think of it that way, your email is content you create. Check out our Creating Content tip sheet for help crafting the perfect message.
No missing links. Include links to full length content on your website or social media platforms. These links should read as calls to action and be well spaced to ensure that your readers find their way to your other content. This also makes your message more mobile-friendly. Just be sure that your website and social media content are also mobile-friendly to have the most impact on your readers.
Make it personal. While automated messages provide a quick and easy response to your customers’ actions, a personalized message stands out in their often overstuffed inboxes. To do this, make sure that your email lists only consists of those who have requested to be contacted by you, while giving them the option to unsubscribe at any time. Be sure to ask subscribers how often they’d like you to contact them by surveying them and customize offers to their needs.
These email marketing etiquette tips never go out of style, and your customers will appreciate your use of them.
